Activities: Guided Walks

The Friends of Bracken Hall Countryside Centre have announced their programme of guided walks for 2018. Unless otherwise stated, all walks start opposite Bracken Hall on the Glen at 1030.

Please come prepared for the weather! We recommend you bring:

• comfortable waterproof footwear

• suitable clothing to keep you warm and dry

• a supply of water and a snack

• a hot drink if it’s chilly

• sun screen and a hat if it’s hot

The nature of the countryside terrain means that most of these walks require a moderate level of fitness and agility and some sections have limited accessibility.

If for any reason a walk is cancelled or the details of the walk change, we will attempt to post the details here on this page and on the Latest News section on the home page. Please check this page as close as possible to the day of the walk.

Details

Our route to Cartwright Hall goes down Shipley Glens' roads - Glen

Road and Prod lane, and then down the bridleway next to Shipley

Glen Tramway - Dixon Mill Lane - ending at Coach Road. Here, we

walk through Roberts Park and on to the Leeds and Liverpool

Canal towpath towards Shipley. We leave the towpath at Victoria

Street and head up through Shipley to Bradford Road, where we

cross it and walk through Northcliffe Park and Sir Norman Rae

playing fields. We skirt the allotments and walk to the far end of the

woods and drop down into the valley, crossing the stream. Up the

other side and through the golf course, we then walk along Long

Lane, passing Six Days Only to Heaton village. Here we pass one

of the last bakeries which makes mint and currant pasty - to order

and a must, and then down Emm Lane and into Lister Park for

dinnertime in the Botanical Gardens. After dinner and a museum

stop, we leave Lister Park at Norman Arch and walk down through

Frizinghall to Valley Road. After crossing at the pedestrian crossing,

we walk alongside both the Bradford Beck and the route of the

Bradford Canal towards Shipley, over Cragg Road and down

alongside Bradford Beck again to Low Well. We cross here, go over

Gallows Bridge and back on to the canal towpath. We follow this

back to Saltaire and trace our route back through Roberts Park, up

Dixon Mill Lane to Shipley Glen and Bracken Hall CC where our walk

ends.
